The all-new car is designed to keep things simple and control the prices of BMW. The car is a perfect match for these problems and delivers efficiency at its best. The other M models of BMW are seen to compromise on driver’s seat when it is to be used for track time, whereas,2017 BMW M2 does not have to face this problem, it is suitable for track times too, and makes the BMW lovers again start expecting more from BMW.
The car has reduced its weight with its light body and derives its front and rear axle systems from the M3 and M4. Aluminum is extensively used in its manufacture and helps in controlling the weight of the car. It can be seen on the control arms, wheel carriers and axle sub-frames. An Active M Differential is featured in the back end. It is electronically controlled, and can fully lock in just 150 milliseconds. Precise body control, compact steering, strong brakes, and a 6-speed manual gearbox are all present to increase the performance of the car.

Outside, the car looks brilliant with a reduced body weight. The M2’s styling announces its intentions of bringing back the track-mode. The nose of the car features the familiar twin-kidney grille that rests above a big air intake flanked by a pair of angular ducts that also take in air. The wheels are made of lightweight forged aluminum 19s that mount Michelin Pilot Super Sports tires, 245/35s up front and 265/35s at the rear.
The front 15-inch rotors are clamped down by four-piston fixed calipers, while the 14.5-inch rear discs get two-piston fixed calipers. Compared to the standard 2-Series, the fenders are flared to handle the M axles and wide tires. The overall effect is a somewhat stubby coupe that looks like it means business and has a classy look.

Inside, the 2017 BMW M2 is a simple car, far from luxurious, because it has been designed keeping the economy in mind. The materials are bit stark, without much design flare or the high-quality surfaces as expected in a BMW. However, there are special M surfaces, and M logos for the gauge cluster, shift lever, door sills, and steering wheel. The seats are strong and comfortable. The car comes with many features to offer including heated seats, navigation, and adaptive cruise control.
Safety features are also added in the car, including forward collision warning, pedestrian warning with city braking, and lane departure warning. There are no factory performance upgrades, and it doesn’t offer a carbon fiber roof like the M4. The options are just limited. Also, an Executive package adds a heated steering wheel, a rearview camera, park distance control, automatic high beams, and an active driving assistant.

Under the hood, the powertrain of the car is present. Power is derived from a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6. The direct-injected, twin-scroll-turbo inline-6 is distinct from what’s used in main-line BMWs and the current M3 and M4. The engine gets some upgrades that focus towards track duty, including pistons and gray cast-iron liners.
The oil system adds an oil cooler for DCT M transmission oil. The engine produces an output of 365 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 343 pound-feet of torque between 1,400 and 5,560 rpm. Fuel economy is no better than decent at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, 23 combined with the M DCT and 18/26/21 mpg with the manual.
