Volkswagen has introduced its new Tiguan crossover, the VW Tiguan 2017 which belongs to the second generation cross-over.
The all-new Tiguan has boosted up the new and up-market design with more space and practicality, introducing a new range of engines in it. Surely it is going to be a big seller. The 2015 latest generation model made record sales for Volkswagen. Also, its crossovers are in great business these days. Tiguan will be offered to the Americans with only the longer of two wheelbases, although the test drive was limited to the European version with the all-wheel four-motion drive.
It faces head-to-head competition with the top cars like Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Cherokee, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4. Its modular MQB vehicle architecture helps to cut cost. The longer redesign of Volkswagen’s compact crossover, increase in size and reasonable price tag with lesser price than before makes it a hot talk of the town these days. Last year, VW sold just one example for every 10 Honda CR-Vs that found a home. This year, however, it is expected to increase its sales due to its amazing speculations.
There are plenty of things to look forward to for loyal Volkswagen Tiguan customers. The car is looking forward to buyers, with its long-wheelbase version scheduled to launch next year and a possible GTE version in the pipeline. The Volkswagen Tiguan is showing its current annual sales figures of over 8 million vehicles a year. Moreover, it is expected to have another 9% rise by 2018 to annual sales of 9 million vehicles. Volkswagen is ready to face the intense competition between car manufacturers in this particular segment of crossover SUV, by introducing a new generation Volkswagen Tiguan.
VW Tiguan 2017 EXTERIOR
Talking about its size wise and exterior dimensions, this new model pushes the Tiguan firmly into the category of mid-sized SUV. It is 60mm longer, 30mm wider and 33mm lower than its predecessor, and rides on a 77mm longer wheelbase. Whereas inside, the extra room is felt immediately, especially in the rear seat which benefits from 29mm more leg space.
The back seats also slide, varying boot space between 520 and 615 liters, to 1655-Liter folded flat. This is important as the old car was roundly criticized for its narrow and shallow 395-Liter capacity. New Tiguan’s boot is one of its biggest strengths. The new generation is longer by 2.3-inches so there’s a bit of added legroom for those who are sitting in the back. However, headroom is 1.3-inches shorter, a change feeding into the new Tiguan’s design traits. According to the Daily Telegraph,” the Tiguan has a definite whiff of the bigger Touareg and it’s a handsome purchase.”
VW Tiguan 2017 INTERIOR
Inside, the new Tiguan brings with it a lot of safety and convenience features for drivers which include front-lane assistance with Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, and Pre-Crash. Moreover, an optional radar-based adaptive cruise control can handle stop-and-go traffic, and Area View, a four-camera, 360-degree view, helps monitor your surroundings.
High-quality plastics are used in its manufacture. Air-conditioning and a touchscreen infotainment system are offered as standard, but not the satellite navigation system, which is a £725 extra, or you’ll have to step up to SE-Navigation trim to get facilitate yourself with this feature. The interior also features the most noteworthy Active Information Display which is a 12.3-inches screen, replacing the instrument cluster. It works extremely well when mated to the satellite navigation system, mounting the maps in huge detail right in front of the driver.
When it comes to practicality, the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 is a five-seater and the rearmost part can move backward and forwards, emphasizing on passenger room inside, depending on your requirements. The boxy back-end of the Tiguan makes its cubic shape, so it should be easy to get large items in and out with a well-provided cargo space. The Tiguan, currently, is offered with only five seats, so buyers after a compact seven-seater will have to look at rivals like the Nissan X-Trail with the optional third pew or the Land Rover Discovery Sport. However, VW has been modified to introduce a model with two more places.
VW Tiguan 2017 ENGINE
The engine has choices for Continental buyers, that go for turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder engines. There are four TSI gasoline units, and four others TDI diesel present inside. The most powerful gas engine produces around 217 horsepower, while the gutsiest diesel which is a twin-turbo 2.0-liter, produces nearly 240 ponies. Volkswagen says the new Tiguan has a towing capacity up to 5500 pounds.
Also the other version of Tiguan, the Tiguan GTE plug-in hybrid concept was shown by Volkswagen, which offers a 1.4-liter TSI gas engine with a transmission-mounted electric motor and a 13-kWh battery pack to produce around 215 horsepower. The thing unique in it is a full-length rooftop solar panel, which can produce up to 621 miles of electric driving range annually. According to the automaker, the car is available all in electric-only mode. Various drive modes allow motoring in all-electric, hybrid, battery charging, or GTE modes, the last of which uses the electric motor to “boost” the gas drivetrain for a 0-to-62-mph sprint in just 8.1 seconds.
It doesn’t take long to get a feeling of confidence behind the wheel because everything looks and feels properly sorted, from the soundproofing to the ride quality and from the body control to the steering. Our R-Line test car was fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox which surprised the viewers and gained their attention.
