An excellent chassis, eye-catching style, and nimble handling come along with the new Buick La Crosse 2017. The car offers luxury grade ride quality and good value at the low end.
Buick has sold a surprising number of more than 900,000 of its flagship La Crosse sedans globally since the new model hit the lines of production. The new model is longer, wider, sleeker, quieter and much comfortable. In short, we can say that the new model is far better than its predecessor version. The car was showed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show with a sharper and elegant design language, which gained the attention of many car buyers. Its cabin features the similar elegant design with a center console sweeping upward to the wide dashboard. The new car has shed up to 300 pounds due to the extensive use of powerful steel components.
The exterior is more welcoming than before with an overall graceful shape and tasteful accents and body creases. The predecessor version’s memories are fully erased with the redesigned 2017 model. The model enters its third generation with a new platform, a new engine, reduced overall weight and a better refinement. The car is available in four flavors: Base, Preferred, Essence, and Premium. The predecessor used a slow-selling E-Assist hybrid powertrain which is now replaced with the new V-6 engine. The buyers can choose between whether going for the front-wheel drive or the Premium all-wheel drive. The car faces serious competition with top cars like Lexus ES 350, Hyundai Genesis, Toyota Avalon, Chrysler 300 and Acura TLX.
Buick La Crosse 2017-EXTERIOR
Outside, the car receives a new grille design, that puts off the older toothy grin and replaces it with a more refined shape. The grille features character lines along its starting and end and gives the car a sleeker and elongated proportion. The car is 15 millimeters longer and 10 millimeters wider than the outgoing version. The wheelbase has stretched to about 65 millimeters. The roofline is 40 millimeters lower to give the car a more hunkered down look. The overall weight of the car is 300 lbs. less than the predecessor generation due to the use of high-quality steel that strengthens its body.
The narrower A and C pillars increase its outward visibility too. Its design draws its inspiration from the Avenir Concept car that made debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Most noteworthy is the dark finish version of Buick waterfall grille which is further bisected by a chrome bar with a three color version of Buick Logo. The overall shape of the car is like a rear-wheel-drive sedan. Standard features include a choice of two 18-inches wheel designs, HID headlamps, and LED tail lamps.
Buick La Crosse 2017-INTERIOR
Inside, the car features a new cabin layout. It is going to be the first sedan in Buick’s lineup to feature a single cockpit design which envelops driver and passenger and puts required information and controls within approach and view. A new eight-inch touchscreen sits at the top of the center stack can be approached comfortably from the front seat, and looks far better than the square unit found in most of the other similar vehicles. The cabin features Android Auto and Apple Car Play smartphone integration, 4G LTE service with built-in WIFI, an infotainment system and an Intelli-Link system which is easy to use and can be used with the navigation option.
Features like heated and ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel only come with the higher trim Premium models, which is an approach to increase the price. Similarly, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring are available only on Premium models and come as an optional package on lower grade trims. GM’s On Star along with 4G LTE connectivity and a new display that shows the strength of antenna’s signals is standard on all models. A wireless phone charger is featured by the center console. The car is provided with high-tech driver assistance features to ensure a quality and safe ride along with good handling and performance.
Buick La Crosse 2017-ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
Under the hood lies a 3.6-liter direct-injected V6 engine which is further mated to an eight-speed shift-by-wire automatic transmission. A five-link rear suspension setup is also added. All-wheel drive is made standard. The engine produces an output of 309 horsepower and 268-pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, it also features the idle-stop technology which brings the engine to halt when the car is at rest and restarts it when the car is moving.
The cylinder deactivation option reduces emissions and improves fuel economy. Power delivery is smooth if a little slow at times. The EPA rating is 21 mpg at city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg as combined with front-wheel-drive. The all-wheel drive reduces the rating numbers to 20/29/23 mpg.
