As a part of the Kia’s EcoDynamics sub-brand, the Niro joins the Soul EV and Optima Hybrid as part of the firm’s ambitions to triple its green car lineup by 2020. Featured as a Hybrid Utility Vehicle, the car aims to attract buyers with a blend of Crossover styling and lower CO2 emissions which are as low as 89g/km. The car faces a serious competition and gives an open challenge to its rivals including new 2017 Nissan Qashqai and Toyota Prius 2017 which are one of the most wanted cars.
It comes as the first dedicated hybrid crossover SUV which joins the world’s limited roster of dedicated hybrids and is headed by the new Toyota Prius 2017, now in its fourth generation. The latest entry besides the Niro is the Hyundai Ioniq 2017 hatchback, which shares underpinnings with the new Niro.

Outside, the car receives its design as a collaboration between Kia’s design studios in Korea and California. In terms of overall size, the car falls between the Cee’d hatchback and the Kia Sportage and looks as a mid-sized sedan. The car is made look appealing to eyes with a variety of SUV styling cues including an upright profile, a plastic cladding around swollen wheel arches and short overhangs.
The front end has much resemblance with the back end, but the combination of lower and sharper headlights mounted to a sleeker vehicle overall makes the front end a bit different and noteworthy. The increased ride height is typical of the crossover class, but the sloping roof lends it a sportier profile than some rivals.

Inside, the basic design of the dashboard is mostly similar to the Kia Sportage. The major change comes in the instrument panel which is further modified to display the hybrid functions. The car features all-wheel drive too. There is an almost 2,700mm distance between the front and rear wheels which is 70mm more than the Qashqai and allows comfortable accommodation for five passengers. The battery for the hybrid system is mounted below the rear seats, so there is a little compromise in terms of overall space.The car also gains a couple of smart pieces of technology to help drivers decrease the fuel consumption.
A system is known as Eco-DAS (Driver Assistance System) introduces a coasting guide, suggesting when a driver should coast or brake. While the Predictive Energy Control makes use of the satellite navigation and cruise control to judge the most appropriate opportunities to use or recharge the hybrid system. Further weight-saving measures include the use of aluminum for the bonnet, boot-lid and some suspension components. And a lithium-ion battery replacing the heavy standard 12-volt unit found in most cars. In order to deliver a quiet and relaxing ride, sound insulation materials have been used extensively, limiting the amount of road and wind noise entering the cabin. The specially designed engine mounts help to reduce vibration felt by occupants.

The 1.6-liter unit was designed with efficiency. The eco-minded engine measures including a system to recover waste heat energy from the exhaust help reduces overall emissions. When teamed with an electric motor, the total system output of the hybrid powertrain stands at 146 horsepower, 103 horsepower of which comes from the petrol engine. No performance figures have yet been revealed, but a 0-62mph time of around 10-second seems likely. Power is transferred to the road via a six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, which is specifically selected to provide more enjoyment.

Kia has not officially confirmed the exact release date for the Kia Niro 2017 , but it’s expected that deliveries will start in the second half of 2016. Whereas, the starting price of the car is predicted to start from £23,000 which sounds economical.
